The Patient Participation Group (PPG) exists to engage patients with the Practice to improve its services for everyone. The PPG committee meets regularly - either virtually or in person – and includes representatives of the Practice. All registered patients over the age of 16 are welcome to attend meetings. What is a Patient Group?

Since April 2015, it has been a contractual requirement of NHS England for all GP practices to have a PPG and to make reasonable efforts for this to be representative of the practice population.

A Patient Group (PG) is a group of patients, carers and GP practice staff who meet to discuss practice issues and patient experience to help improve the service.

Our PG is open to every patient on the GP practice list. All communities, groups, genders, ages, ethnicities, and disabilities representing the patient list are encouraged to join.

How is the PG Run?

There is no single model of a PG. However, it is important for all PGs to be able to contact patients for their views and feedback. Please fill in the contact form if you would like to help or simply be kept up to date with what is happening in your Practice.

What is the role of a PG?

The aim is to make sure that the practice puts the patient and improving health at the heart of everything it does
It is important to us that our PG has an inclusive and diverse membership to ensure that the PG represents as many types of patient voices as possible
PG members can act as ambassadors within the community and this can help with recruitment of new members
We hope that by being as outward facing as possible, our PG can learn about innovations which are happening in the local community and bring these back to the practice
PG members can help to promote health initiatives being introduced within the practice
PGs can work alongside the practice and local health commissioners to ensure that the right services are available to the local population
PGs can give patients and practice staff the opportunity to meet and discuss topics of mutual interest
PGs can provide a means for patients to become more involved and make suggestions about the healthcare services they receive
PGs can explore issues from patient complaints and patient surveys, contribute to actions plans and help monitor improvements.
PGs can contribute feedback to the practice on National Patient Survey results and Friends and Family Test feedback to propose developments or change
PGs can support the practice in promoting health awareness and patient education.

What are the benefits for the patient?

Patients will have a better understanding and knowledge of the practice and its staff
Patients are kept up to date with what is happening in their practice
Practice staff will learn more about what patients think and feel and gain greater understanding of their needs
Patients will benefit from improved communications between patients and staff

What are the benefits for the practice?

GPs and their staff will be able to plan services jointly with patients and so make them more effective
They will be able to get help from patients in meeting their objectives
They will have a forum to voice their concerns, ideas and suggestions to patients
They will get closer to the community for whom they care

How is the PG structured?

We aim to meet quarterly, either in person at the practice or virtually.

We are looking to appointment a Chair and PG Coordinator, as part of our relaunch in 2024.
