Appointments

Who do I see?

How to access an appointment

We are starting a new way to get appointments, called total triage (online consulting).

Our new appointment system will help us:

  • Make sure urgent problems are seen quickly
  • Improve fairness and help you see the right person
  • Make sure every patient gets the right care the first time
  • Reduce waiting times and missed appointments

Please follow the steps below and choose the service that is right for you

Pharmacy First - Your Go-To for Quick Healthcare

What is Pharmacy First?

Pharmacy First is an NHS service. It helps you get health advice and treatment for common problems at your local pharmacy. You don’t need a GP appointment or a prescription for issues like:

  • Sinusitis
  • Sore throats
  • Earaches
  • Infected insect bites
  • Impetigo
  • Shingles
  • Uncomplicated urinary tract infections in women

How Can Pharmacy First Help?

Pharmacy First gives quick treatment and advice for these common conditions. Pharmacists might offer you over-the-counter medicine, or prescription medicine based on your needs. All consultations are private. You can also be sent to Pharmacy First by NHS services like NHS 111 or your GP.

Additional Support from Pharmacies

  • Minor Illnesses: Pharmacists can help with common problems. This includes colds, flu, aches, pains, rashes, and cystitis. They can also help with emergency contraception, pregnancy tests, and needle exchange. You don’t need an appointment, and they will send you to a doctor if needed.
  • Medication Advice: Pharmacists know a lot about medicines. If you have questions about your prescription or medicine you buy yourself, they can help. If you start a new long-term medicine, the New Medicine Service can give you support. If you take many medicines, the Medicines Use Review (MUR) can help make sure you take them safely.
  • Repeat Prescriptions: Pharmacists can help you with your repeat prescriptions. This means you may not need to see the GP if your condition is stable. If there is a problem with your medicine, the pharmacist can talk to your GP for you.
  • Healthy Living Advice: Pharmacies can help you stay healthy. They can give you advice on eating well, exercising, and quitting smoking. They can offer products that help you stop smoking and check in with you to help you stay on track.

Pharmacy First is here to make getting the care you need simpler and faster.

Total Triage - Online consulting

Castle Medical Centre is changing to a Total Triage appointment system. This will start in November 2025. This change will help you get the right care more quickly and fairly. Every request for an appointment or medical advice will be reviewed first by our clinical team.

We will assess your needs and direct you to the most appropriate care – which might be;

  • An urgent same-day appointment with a member of our clinical team (In person or by phone)
  • A priority appointment within 3 working days
  • A prebooked routine appointment
  • Advice from a pharmacist of another service
  • Self-care guidance
  • A follow-up or referral as needed

When you can, send us your triage request as soon as possible. This helps us decide who needs care first and makes sure urgent patients are seen quickly.

Call the Practice

If you can’t send a triage request yourself, our reception team can help. They will ask you the same questions that are on the online form and send the request for you. A member of our clinical team will then look at it and decide what care you need.
